Reverse charge: VAT payable by the recipient (Art. 196 Directive 2006/112/EC).
From a new client to money in the bank
- Step 1
Set up your business once
Add your logo, address, tax numbers and bank details. They appear on every invoice, so you never retype them.
- Step 2
Save your clients
Each client keeps their own currency, VAT ID and tax note. Pick them from a list when you bill them.
- Step 3
Send the invoice, then mark it paid
Download a clean PDF, send it the way you always do, and see at a glance what is still outstanding.
Paste their email. Get a client.
Clients send their billing details in a message. Paste it into Tallyo and the AI pulls out the company name, address and VAT number for you to check and save. It can also turn a rough description of the job into tidy line items.
Optional, and off unless you add a Groq API key.
Please issue the invoice to our GmbH:
Waldblick Energie GmbH
Musterstraße 1, 10115 Berlin
VAT ID DE123456789
No German VAT please, just add the reverse charge note.

Questions people ask before switching
- Is Tallyo really free?
- Yes. Invoices, clients, PDF downloads, templates and team members are all free, with no trial period. The code is open source under the MIT license, so you can also run it on your own server.
- Can I add a reverse charge note for EU business clients?
- Yes. Choose reverse charge for a client and Tallyo prints a 0% VAT line and the note your client's accountant expects, including the German § 13b UStG wording for clients in Germany. You can edit every note.
- Which currencies can I invoice in?
- Any of the 150+ currencies your browser knows, set per client and per invoice. Totals on your dashboard are kept separate for each currency.
- Can I download invoices as PDF?
- Yes. Every invoice downloads as a PDF in one of four templates (Classic, Minimal, Bold or Compact) with your logo and brand colour. The preview you see while editing is the actual PDF.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. Tallyo runs in your browser. If you prefer, you can deploy your own copy to Netlify or Vercel in a few minutes.
- What does the AI do with my data?
- The AI helpers are optional. When you use one, only the text you paste or the item you are editing is sent to the model, and the result fills the form for you to check. Nothing is saved until you save.
Your invoices can live on your own server.
Tallyo is open source. Run it on your own machine or any host that runs Node.js, point it at a MongoDB database, and your billing data never leaves your hands.
